Grief Crisis Kits

PFDL’s Grief Crisis Kits are intended to be used by school mental health professionals who are working with youth who are experiencing grief symptoms following a crisis. The kits include a variety of books to provide youth with the psychoeducation necessary for them to understand death and the process of grieving, and a wide variety of developmentally appropriate activities for school mental health professionals to use with youth to help the process their grief and make meaning of their loss to heal.

PFDL has provided local New Orleans schools with crisis intervention consultation and support since its inception. Over the past several years, participating school mental health professionals have asked PFDL for additional resources to support students who are grieving following a crisis event. As a result, PFDL created innovative Grief Crisis Kits containing books, activities, and art supplies for school mental health professionals to use when working with youth who are experiencing grief. In addition, PFDL developed a manual to accompany each kit to demonstrate how to use the items in the kit with youth experiencing grief. Finally, PFDL designed a training for school mental health professionals on how to use these kits to help them more adequately respond to the needs of their grieving students following a crisis event.
