Coping Cube & Curriculum

A stress reaction prevention program

PFDL’s Coping Cubes are intended to be used by teachers and/or school mental health professionals to teach elementary-age youth about stress and coping. PFDL created short lessons to be easily incorporated into class or a small group setting. PFDL is open to training individual teachers and/or school mental health professionals as well as entire school districts.

The Coping Cube™ was created by PFDL to preventively counter the negative effects of stress in an innovative way. The Coping Cube is a three-dimensional cube that when opened and manipulated has nine panels which display evidence-based practices for dealing with adversity and stress in a fun and child-friendly way. PFDL held focus groups with students to glean feedback for developmentally appropriate revisions which was incorporated into the final version of the Coping Cube. PFDL has been distributing these Coping Cubes locally, nationally, and internationally to school and community mental health professionals.

PFDL, in partnership with Tulane University, developed a Coping Cube Curriculum to accompany the Coping Cube to facilitate teaching of the skills found on the Coping Cube. The Coping Cube Curriculum provides a stress reaction prevention program and consists of five 30-minute lessons; each designed to teach a specific skill. The lessons of the Coping Cube Curriculum are built on evidence-based practices that have proved effective in combating the negative effects of stress for school-age students.

Military Coping Cube and Curriculum

The military coping cube was designed to provide youth and their families with education about stress and coping in military-specific circumstances such as deployment and frequent moves. PFDL developed a Military Coping Cube Curriculum to facilitate workshops with military youth to expand on the concepts and skills on the military coping cube.
